Democrats “making ICE melt”
The Democrats claim if they win the midterms they will have enough to regain control of Congress after the November 2026 midterm elections, they intend to introduce and pass legislation named the “Alex Pretti Act.” The bill would eliminate qualified immunity protections for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents, making it easier for individuals to sue or pursue criminal charges against them for alleged misconduct on the job.
Who Was Alex Pretti?
Alex Jeffrey Pretti was a 37-year-old intensive care unit (ICU) nurse who worked at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospital. He was a U.S. citizen and longtime Minneapolis resident.
On January 24, 2026, Pretti was fatally shot multiple times by two U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Minneapolis’s Whittier neighborhood during an immigration enforcement operation known as “Operation Metro Surge.” According to reports, the incident occurred near 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue.
Federal authorities initially described Pretti as a threat or labeled him a domestic terrorist in some statements, claiming officers feared for their safety. However, video evidence and local reporting have been cited by critics as contradicting key aspects of the official account. Pretti’s death was ruled a homicide by the Hennepin County medical examiner.
