Great News from the NHS!

According to NHS bosses, The NHS has hit an important target.

More people are now waiting less than 18 weeks for treatment.

This is the biggest improvement in waiting times for 16 years.

What happened?

•  The NHS reached its goal for the number of patients waiting 18 weeks or less.

•  This did not happen by chance.

•  It came from huge hard work by NHS staff across the whole country.

What did the NHS boss say?

Sir Jim Mackey is the Chief Executive of the NHS.

He said:

“This is a huge moment for the NHS.

Hitting our targets for the first time in years hasn’t happened by accident.

It’s been down to an absolutely enormous effort from NHS staff up and down the country.”

He also said that today’s success shows they are making real improvements for patients and their families.

Why is this extra special?

This happened during:

•  The busiest NHS winter on record

•  Times with strikes (industrial action)

•  After the biggest changes to the NHS in its history

Sir Jim Mackey added:

“That our staff have been able to achieve this in a year that’s seen the busiest NHS winter on record, that’s been interrupted by industrial action and that’s since the biggest shake-up of the NHS in its history makes today’s achievement all the more extraordinary.”

Why does this matter?

Shorter waiting times mean:

•  People get help faster

•  Less worry for patients and families

•  Better care overall

Well done to everyone who works in the NHS!

This shows what can happen when people work hard together.

Summary:

✅ NHS hits 18-week waiting target

✅ Achieved in a very tough year
