Rockstar Games has officially announced that pre-orders for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will begin on June 25, 2026, across digital storefronts and select retailers. The game is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Pricing and Editions
Standard Edition: $79.99
Ultimate Edition: $99.99 (includes premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, story customizations, and more exclusive content)
All pre-orders come with the Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring a classic '55 Vapid sedan and retro outfits. Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+.
The Big Twist: Physical Copies Are "Code in a Box"
One of the most talked-about details is that physical versions of GTA 6 will not include a game disc at launch. Instead, buyers will receive a box containing a download code. Physical editions will be available starting November 12, 2026, allowing players to pre-load the game ahead of the November 19 release.
Rockstar's official statement: “The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading.”
This move has sparked mixed reactions. Collectors and physical media enthusiasts express disappointment, viewing it as another step toward the decline of traditional discs. Many note that modern games like GTA 6 are expected to be massive (potentially hundreds of GB), making multi-disc setups impractical anyway. Others see the boxed code version as a way to still support retail while enabling early access.
Why No Discs?
Industry trends point to cost, anti-piracy/leak prevention, and logistics. With GTA 6's enormous file size, a true disc-based version could require multiple high-capacity Blu-rays or a disc plus a large download. Digital distribution simplifies this, reduces manufacturing costs, and helps Rockstar control the launch more tightly after past leaks with previous titles.
Take-Two Interactive had previously confirmed plans for physical copies, but the "code in a box" approach represents a hybrid compromise rather than a full disc release at launch.
How to Pre-Order
Digital: Head to the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store (add to wishlist now for alerts). Pre-loading begins November 12.
Physical: Available at major retailers like GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart, and others starting June 25. Check local stock and policies.
Expect high demand—analysts project massive first-day and first-hour sales, potentially exceeding $1 billion.
What to Expect from GTA 6
Set in a reimagined Vice City and surrounding areas, the game follows protagonists Jason and Lucia in an evolved open-world experience. New screenshots highlight neon-lit streets, high-speed chases, and the signature Rockstar attention to detail. While the single-player campaign is the main focus at launch, GTA Online elements are expected to expand later.
Whether you're going digital for convenience or grabbing a physical box for your collection (even without the disc), mark your calendars. Pre-orders open tomorrow—get ready for what could be the biggest game release in years.
Stay turned UK Dispatch will be streaming it HOPEFULLY when it goes live on November 18th
