So whats the plan then?
The core announcement at the 11am press conference with Nigel Farage and Zia Yusuf focuses on these main points:
Deport all foreign national offenders (over 10,000 currently in British jails). Send them back to their home countries where possible. If those countries refuse, transfer them to serve the rest of their sentences in third-country prisons (explicitly mentioning places like El Salvador and Kosovo). Reform says Farage has already opened talks with El Salvador about renting prison space, and a party delegation is expected to visit later this year.
Use the prison places this frees up so that serious British criminals (murderers, rapists, those convicted of serious violence, etc.) no longer need to be released early. They plan to change the law so these offenders serve their full sentences with no early release.
Address the wider prison capacity crisis (which both Reform and others link to early-release schemes under the current government) by also building temporary “Nightingale”-style prisons on Ministry of Defence land.
